and providing answers.
FLASH: The 2007 Reunion has been
Rescheduled for 2010 !!!
This the official email notification and information source for the upcoming
2010 Southside High School Reunion, and your personal invitation to attend.

WHO Is Invited: Anyone who attended Southside High
School, Selma, Alabama (although it is primary for those which attended in the
60s, 70s and up through the mid-80s)
WHEN: Weekend of July 30, 2010 (see schedule of
activities below)
WHERE: All events will be held at the Dallas County
Moose Lodge, Selma, Alabama (to get to the Moose Lodge, drive past the Selma
Mall with the Mall on your left…then continue from there out of town for about 2
miles and the Moose Lodge will be on your right)
WHY: The purpose of the reunion is to allow our
former classmates to reunite after all of these decades (yes, decades), rekindle
friendships and reminisce about the “good ole days”…back when things were much
simpler…back before we had all the obligations and responsibilities.
COST: Cost for the reunion is $50 per person (not
matter how many Reunion events you plan to attend). Attached is the official
registration form – please complete the form and send it in (along with your
payment) as soon as you can. And please make your check payable to John
Gawrysiak (Class of 1975). Any checks made out to anyone else will be returned
to you since we will have no way to process them.
T-SHIRT: Each paying attendee will receive a
commemorative 2010 SHS Reunion T-Shirt…so make sure you indicate your T-Shirt
size(s) on the official registration form.
Note that the highlight activity for the reunions
weekend is the Social and Dance on Saturday night. The theme is “Country and
Western.” Soooo, it’s time to get out that 10-gallon hat and large belt
buckles, gents (and for safety reasons, no spurs allowed…hahaha)…and for your
ladies, it’s time for those skirts and tight fittin’ jeans.
______________________________________________________
I firmly believe this will be the last reunion of its
kind. We put on similar “All Classes” reunions in 2003 and 2005. The amount of
effort and coordination required is high and very demanding on peoples’ personal
time…I do believe this will be the last one like this. I strongly urge you to
consider attending this one, especially if you have been unable to attend one in
the past. The “An Evening With Friends” events which have been done for the
past three years running may well continue, and you will likely have an
opportunity to attend one of those for as long as they are put on. But since
those are one evening, they tend to be attended by those that can get there in a
day and not so many “out of towners.”
Please understand that this reunion, like the ones in 2003
and 2005, are not meant to replace the periodic class reunions conducted by each
graduating class at Southside. They are broader and are extended to allow
anyone that attended Southside High School to attend (you don’t have to have
graduated from Southside, but you must have attended at some point).

HOTEL
If you need a hotel room, the Reunion Committee has
negotiated the following arrangements at local hotels in Selma. You can stay at
these hotels, or another hotel of your choosing if you like. I want to strongly
emphasize this, and it is important: If you think you just might need a hotel
room, you should make reservations right away (now!). You can cancel up to the
day before arrival and still not be charged for the room(s). There are several
other events going on in Selma during the same weekend, and as a result, two of
the major hotels are already full and not available to us at all.
Two hotels options for July 30th and 31st:
COMFORT INN
1812 Highway 14E
334-875-5700
The Comfort Inn Hotel is located near the Moose Lodge,
where all of the Reunion activities where will be held. Hotel has a pool and
offers a continental breakfast—they ask that you bring additional towels if you
plan to use the pool. Rates are: $75 per night for two queen beds. Discounted
rates for military (active or retired), AAA, AARP (over 50), or government
employees are $66 per night. It is recommended you call after 3PM Central Time
to make your reservation to get someone that speaks English well.
BUDGET INN
601 Highland Avenue
877-747-8713
The Budget Inn Hotel is also near the Moose Lodge and Selma
Mall. Basic rooms rate is $44.25 per night for a king size bed and $51.75 for
two double beds. There are no other discounted rates available. Hotel has a
pool. And note that this hotel is very basic – pretty much just a place to
sleep and that’s about it. The phone number above is a reservation service and
not the hotel itself. When you call, specify “Budget Inn in Selma, AL.

any former SHS people you can…including those on social networking websites like
