DIRECTIONS TO THE VALLEY GRANDE PARK: In Selma, head North on highway 22 until you see County Road 16 on your left. Valley Grande Baptist Church is on the North side of County Road 16 and is a good landmark for those who don’t live in Selma (OR, look it up on the Internet or use your GPS (Address provided below) LOL). Valley Grande Baptist Church Address is: 48 County Road 16, Valley Grande, AL 36701-9145
THE DANCE (Cost is $10 per person; pay at the door), including a live band once again this year, will be at the Selma Moose Lodge. We will eat a light dinner before the dance (See poster below)—and please don’t forget to bring a finger food dish or desert to share.
Times for the Social and Dance at the Moose Lodge are as follows: - Social Time is from 6pm until 8pm--during that time we will eat finger food and sweets people bring in for the function (This has worked out really well in the past!), and socialize - The dance will begin promptly at 8PM and end promptly at midnight (A cash bar will be available and include alcoholic beverages; and remember that no drinks may be brought into the Selma Moose Lodge…period)
I ask that you come and have fun…and please be sure to tell other former SHS people about this event. We do ask that you have attended Southside during the 60‘s and 70‘s or that you have been invited as a guest, to attend.
INFORMATION NEEDED: We need info regarding former SHS people who have passed away (former students, teachers, staff, friends, etc.). Please go to the “In Memorium” page of our reunion web site and view the list…and if you know of someone we can honor that is not already listed there--please email Jeff Maddox (jeff@jeffmaddox.com) no later than the 1st of July. We look forward to seeing you all…
Please contact Wanda Ward or myself if you have any questions. See you there!
There will be no smoking permitted in the dance hall.
The Moose Lodge and the ‘An Evening With Friends V’ Committee reserve the right to refuse admittance to any person or group since this is a private function. We ask that each person who attends the event to conduct themselves as adults and to report any problems to Wanda Ward, Don Estes, or Jeff Maddox and we will take care of the matter. For your security, a paid law enforcement security person will be at this event.

Email sent on 6/19/2011: We’re less than 30-days away from the 5th “An Evening With Friends” event which will be on Saturday, July 16th. Woohoo!!!!! I hope you’re getting anxious and excited about attending this event like the rest of us are!!! It’s time to start those evening walks and morning workouts so you are slim and trim and looking good for July 16th (LOL)…don’t forget to dust off your dancing shoes too. And ladies, there WILL be some of the popular line dances—so practice up and show us your rhythm and moves. Four hours of ‘live band’ music (8PM to midnight) will make it FUN and well worth the $10 per person (I can’t wait to hear them play Skynard’s ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ again…I’ve attached the song to this email in case you want to hear it right now). As usual, we’ll be talking about those people that don’t attend…actually, we’ll probably talk about you if you DO attend too (it’s ALL good baby). Hahaha. Either way, this promises to be Mucho Fun, folks ! Mark your calendar – we’d really like to see another record turnout this year (we had over 200 last year)—the FREE 10AM to 2PM cookout was added to add value for you…and to ensure we have enough events during the day to make the trip to Selma worthwhile for out-of-towners). And if you’ve never been to one of these “An Evening With Friends” events, you should attend this one (we won’t be able to have these forever, and we are all mortal, ya know)! Not only is there the social and dance at a rock bottom price of $10 per person starting at 6PM (arrive hungry; there will be plenty of finger food too)….there is also a FREE cookout (…and free for any guests you bring; and, no alcohol is permitted at this cookout event, puleeez) from 10AM-2PM, plenty of time to reminisce and talk about the good ole days at Southside and what you’ve done since (Bring your yearbooks and other SHS memorabilia). Note that although there will be no smoking permitted in the main ballroom area of the Moose Lodge--the members of the Moose Lodge have a separate area in the building where they will allow their members to smoke. If you know a member, and you smoke, you may be able to step in there with a member and smoke – otherwise, smoking will be limited to outside and not in the main ballroom area. The air handlers in the ballroom part of the building simply cannot keep up and exchange the air efficiently enough for us to allow smoking in that area. If you know of any former SHS people we can honor on the “In Memorium” page of the www.SouthsideReunion.com website that are not yet listed there, please let me know and I will add their name. Oh, before I forget to mention this, there will be a 50/50 Raffle during the Social and Dance. Tickets will be sold that evening, with half of the proceeds going to the winner of the drawing, and half going toward maintaining our website. And don’t forget you are to plan to bring a finger-food type of dish or desert to the 6PM social time (we’ll put that all out and share it with everyone….we’ve done that several times and it works out great). Can’t wait to see everyone once again!!! These events are soooooo much fun! Cheers, Jeff Maddox Webmaster, www.SouthsideReunion.com P.S. Let others that attended or worked at SHS know about this event, please. P.S.S. This is a private event. The Selma Moose Lodge and “An Evening With Friends” committee reserves the right to allow or deny entry to anyone. Also, no drinks at all may be brought into the Selma Moose Lodge—there will be a cash bar with sodas, beer, mixed drinks, etc., for sale at very reasonable prices (please drink responsibly). Lastly, for your security and protection, a paid off-duty law enforcement official will be present serving in a security capacity.
